How to Clean a Deep Fat Fryer
Deep fat fryers are great to have at home. Although you can re-use the oil in your fryer, you will need to clean it out occasionally, particularly if the oil has been used frequently. Of course you can't clean a deep fat fryer in the dishwasher, but you can clean it thoroughly using Deep Fat Fryer Cleaning Tablets.
1. Unplug your deep fat fryer and discard the used oil. Tip the fryer on its side so the open side is over the edge of a sink, and place a bowl in the bottom of the sink to catch additional oil as it drips out. Once the dripping has slowed to just one drop every 10 seconds, set the deep fat fryer upright and discard the oil in the bowl. 2. Using paper towels, wipe the interior of the deep fat fryer to clean out oil and debris stuck to the sides and bottom. Repeat this step several times to remove as much oil as possible.

3. Add water to the low level marked on your fryer. Where possible set at 150ºC and turn on. Do nothing until the water boils. For sensitive or delicate skin, wear rubber gloves. It is best to clean your fat fryer on an old worktop or sink as boiling over can mark stove tops.
4. When the water is boiling and bubbling place one Deep Fat Fryer Cleaning Tablet into the basket never directly into the fryer, and gently lower into the boiling water holding the basket with the tablet submerged for a minute until the tablet is dissolved before allowing the basket to sit at the bottom of your fryer.
Please note: If you have an aluminium fryer and let the tablet touch the bottom of your fryer it can damage it, always place tablet in basket and follow above instructions.
5. Close the lid on fryers with adjustable thermostat where you can alter the temperature. For fryers with no adjustment leave the lid open. Watch carefully - never leave unobserved. Do not allow water solution to boil over. If this happens immediately turn off the electricity.
For fryers where you have closed the lid, foam may be observed coming from the lid, this is normal, just wipe clean with a damp cloth.
6. Allow the water to simmer for 20 minutes when your fryer should be free of all stubborn grease. Exercise care to prevent scalding, allow water to cool before emptying the fryer in a suitable drain or sink and wipe lid and other areas where any grease is loose and easy to wipe off with a damp cloth.
It is recommended that you rinse the fryer with clean warm water before using. You will note that your fryer and the basket should be sparkling clean and free of all grease.
7. Use the damp soapy sponge to clean the exterior of the deep fat fryer. Make sure the sponge isn't sopping wet or dripping. You just want the sponge to be damp enough to wipe dirt, dust and oil off the exterior. 8. Dry the interior and exterior of the deep fat fryer with paper towels. If water ran down the exterior or you suspect it came into contact with the electrical components of the fryer, let it air dry for 24 to 48 hours before using it. |
