Removing Mould on Walls and Ceilings

How to Remove Mould on Walls and Celings - Your FREE Guide

Mould growth takes place over time and will grow in environments where moisture is present. In order to perform an effective long-term solution, it is necessary to first eliminate the source of the moisture. Plumbing leaks, roof leaks, seepage under foundation walls, lack of ventilation etc. are some of the common causes of residual moisture, and the problem must be identified and corrected.

Once any problems have been identified and addressed the rooms where mould is present ideally should be fully dried out using de-humidifiers. Furthermore the use of Moisture Absorbers will help reduce moisture levels in the future.

With the source of the moisture corrected and ruined finishes removed, the area must be sealed off to prevent mould from becoming airborne during the cleaning process. Protective clothing and respirator masks with eye protection are recommended. Gloves are essential.

1. Cleaning mould from walls can be done using a Fungicidal Wash or a Fungicidal Spray (see below).

2. Once the mould is completely removed from the walls and other areas, the room can be ventilated in order to accomplish a complete dry out.

3. Then we would recommend using an effective Stain Blocking Damp Seal prior to re-painting the surface. This will allow trapped moisture to evaporate over time to prevent paint flaking or wallpaper peeling off.

4. We also recommend using our Kilrock Damp Odour Neutraliser to mask any damp smells.

For a natural solution to controlling mould, bacteria and fungi try our NEW Safe T Air.

In the days following the cleaning, it is essential that any signs of re-occurring mould be addressed immediately. These signs might be musty smells or the regrowth of mould in visible locations. Musty odours that remain for days following the cleaning suggest the moisture problem and mould cleaning have not been thoroughly resolved.

If the area remains clear the surfaces can be re-decorated. It would be recommended to obtain a Hygromter to monitor the mositure in the air over a period of time to ascertain that conditions remain ideal to prevent re-occurence.
