Van Dyck Crystals are a traditional and natural water-based wood dye made from walnut husks. They produce a colour ranging from a very light brown to dark brown depending upon the concentration, and are the traditional method used for colouring oak, mahogany and walnut.

The intensity of colour produced is controlled by the strength of the dilution.

Size: 250g

Also Available in 500g and 1kg Sizes

Preparation:
Dissolve the Van Dyck Crystals in hot water (about 100g to 1 Litre). Test the colour on a spare piece of wood, and darken by adding more crystals or lighten by adding more water. To obtain different shades Concentrated Water Based Dyes can also be added to the solution. Or the solution can be added to Palette Wood Dyes or water-based varnishes.

Application:
Ensure the surface is bare, dry and free from dust. Apply with a brush or sponge and wipe off excess with a cloth. Allow to dry for at least 12 hours, then rub down lightly with abrasive paper of 240 or 320 grit.

Precautions:
When using a water-based varnish over the stain, extra care must be taken on application of the first coat as over brushing may lift out the colour.

Important:
Always test the product on a spare surface or inconspicuous area for colour, compatibility and end result.
