Preparation: Surfaces to be varnished must be dry, clean, smooth and free from dust, oil, grease and other contaminants. Cracks can be filled with Rustins Wood Filler. If the wood is open grained Rustins Grain filler may be used before varnishing.
Application: Apply by brush. The first coat on new wood should be thinned with 25% White Spirit and applied with a good quality brush.
Coats: Three coats are recommended but porous end-grain or wood that is badly weathered may need further applications.
Drying Time: 12 hours depending on temperature and humidity
Re-coating Time: 12 hours depending on temperature and humidity
Application Temp: Ideally 15-25°C. Do not use below 10°C or in conditions of high humidity
Maintenance: When re-coating is necessary, clean down the surface with a mild detergent and water and lightly sand before coating
Compatibility: May be applied over old existing coating if these are in good condition and rubbed down to provide a key. Coatings not in good condition should be removed with Rustins Strypit Paint and Varnish Stripper. If applying over wood preservatives test on a small area to ensure the varnish dries and adheres well. Cannot be applied over Creosote.
