Metal lawnmower blades are as a rule blunt-edged blades, they work by sheering the grass as they spin (much like a trimmer line does) eventually they will wear thin and performance will drop off. Electric Machines: Always unplug from the electricity supply before dismantling

Petrol Machines: Always disconnect the spark plug lead and extinguish any naked flames before dismantling. DO NOT Smoke when working on petrol-engined machines

Battery Machines: Always disconnect the battery before dismantling

When Fitting Metal Blades: 

1. Handle with care, blades have sharp edges wear stout gloves
2. Check the orientation of your old blade before removal and make sure it is refitted the same way
   
3. Clean any dirt and debris from around the blade mounted on the mower and check for damages on the washers/spacers and the blade retaining bolt
   
4. Fit the new blade, ensuring it is the same way up as the one that's been removed and correctly centred on the machine mounting and the blade bolt is fully tightened.
   

Hover Mowers: 

1. It is important to fit the correct number of height spacers depending on the length of grass to be cut
2. When the grass is overlong, it is better to cut it once on a high setting (none or one spacer), and then again at the desired height (add one or two spacers) rather than risk damaging your lawnmower trying to cut too much grass in one go.
